Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden Relaxes in Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa, is one of the southernmost locations in Africa.  Located on the west coast, it is also the capital  city of South Africa.  Cape Town is likely the most popular tourist destination in Africa due to its Mediterranean-like climate.  Millions of tourists visit Cape Town each year.   Gardeners will be intrigued during a visit to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.

The expansive Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is located at the base of Table Mountain.  Table Mountain is named for its near vertical cliffs and fairly flat top.   Many of the Garden’s paths are paved which should aid your exploration, yet some paths consist of steep steps or are mulch-covered.

See plants whose families date back 200 million years.  View ancient African stone sculptures.  Enjoy a picnic with your family.  Learn about the geology of Table Mountain.  Go on a mountain climb.

The best time to visit Kirstenbosch are the months of August – November which encompass spring and early summer.

Concerts are held at the Garden every Sunday from November through April.  You may wish to extend your stay a few days to take a drive through the extensive Garden Route area which is named for its greenery.

The city of Cape Town boasts a slew of fun activities.   Take a wine tour.  Visit the Tygerberg Zoo. Go whale-watching. Shop the best boutiques in the city.  Explore its museums.

Restaurants showcase local African food as well as French, Asian, Mediterranean, and other global cuisine.
